A Quote about a Girl on a Farm

While I was reading a book on starting your own Small Farm Business last night, I came across a quote that I had never heard before. It was simple, yet embodied all of the reasons why I moved back home to be close to the farm. It reminded me of the days I spent riding my horse around our fields when I was younger, and feeling completely at ease knowing that I was where I was meant to be. It went like this:

“She had never known before how much the country meant to her. The chirping of the insects down in the long grass had been like the sweetest music. She had felt as if her heart were hiding down there, somewhere, with the quail and the plover and all the little wild things that crooned or buzzed in the sun. Under the long shaggy ridges, she felt the future stirring…”
